Why Visit Dubai Fruit and Vegetable Market?

Why visit Dubai Fruit and Vegetable Market? Simply because if you want to try to be a vegan and live a healthy lifestyle then this is the paradise you are looking for. DFVM is located in Al Aweer next to the Dubai Car Market. Many residents shop at the market despite of its location being in the outskirts of Dubai because the prices are way too cheap compared to the ones being sold in the groceries and supermarkets. The reason why the fruits and vegetables are being sold at cheap prices is because the bulk of the imported produce reached this market first. The retailers will then buy in bulk and are distributed to supermarkets and groceries.

When I went to visit the market, I was swarmed by the barrow boys at the parking area who offer the services of carrying the purchases I wanted to buy. I declined. Since I was not buying too much. I heard that they were charging 5 to 10 aed for their services. I went to one of the pavilion and was amazed by the abundant display of fresh fruit and vegetables. I have not seen any weighing scale at each stall. The fruits and vegetables were being sold by crate or cartoon or by pile.  And the place was generally clean and the bustling with a lot of people buying supplies.

Take look at what we had bought:

KIWI - 10 aed

GRAPES - 10 aed

STRAWBERRIES - 10 aed

ORANGE - 15 aed

I could have paid for a pile oranges for 10 aed had I bargained hard for it.

Back to the parking lot, I was swarmed by the ambulant vendors selling fruits also. I thought these are people were not allowed to sell in the parking area. I politely declined and said that I don't eat the fruit that they were selling but they insisted by pushing the bag of fruits into the boot of my car and offered to give them half of the original price. I removed the bag from the car and gave the vendor a stern look and I repeated that I don't eat the fruit. He took the bag and left me.

SHOPPING TIP:

- Make sure to check all the products that you are buying. Some box may come with over riped or perished goods.

- Buy only what you can eat. You may be shocked by the cheap prices and you tend to buy more. Then you realize later that you bought more than what you can eat or cook.

- You can hire one of the Barrow Boys while shopping. They will follow you around the market. Tip is 5-10 aed and will depend how long you will hire them.

- There is no fix price. Bargain and bargain a lot! Vendors are always willing to sell their products at the lowest price. Negotiate **.
--------
** Let me just briefly teach how to bargain Pinoy style: Ask the price. Ask for more discount. If the vendor doesn't agree, pretend to walk away. If the vendor is willing to sell at the reduced price the vendor will ask you to come back and sell you the products. If the vendor doesn't do this try another vendor with the same products ;)
